Become Empowered and Take Control

by Council of State Affiliates
May 4, 2019

As a young person who has experienced the foster care system, your voice is a powerful tool when it comes to advocating for your needs. Your feedback can not only impact decisions that are made during your time in care, but it can help shape and improve larger child welfare processes and procedures as well.

This May, National Foster Care Month recognizes that foster care must act as a support for the families and youth currently involved with the child welfare system. Visit the National Foster Care Month website to find information on how the child welfare system can honor its commitment to hearing your voice and to learn what you can do to become an advocate.

  • Find and share resources designed to assist you in navigating the child welfare system, and share them with others who could use this information.
  • Use the sample social media posts to help raise awareness about your needs and about the ways in which the foster care system can support you.
  •  Contact the foster care agencies in your state to access important information about foster care and learn who you can contact to share your voice.

Visit and bookmark the National Foster Care Month website today at https://www.childwelfare.gov/fostercaremonth. Please give us your feedback at http://sgiz.mobi/s3/6267b61c0b84 .
