The North Carolina Foster and Adoptive Parent Association (NCFAPA) was incorporated in August 1975. Historically, the organization had provided training to foster and adoptive parents in the state of North Carolina through a yearly conference. The principle funding had been through a grant provided by the state that funded the yearly conference. Efforts were made to sustain the organization when funding ceased but due to political and economic challenges, the organization has been inactive for approximately four years. Currently, efforts are being made throughout the state to revive the organization in order to help with efforts to improve the system, recruit and sustain quality foster and adoptive parents, and institute change in policy. The name of the organization was changed to Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina (FFA-NC), effective March 2018.
Purpose
- FFA-NC is a nonprofit corporation that provides training and support to individuals, families, and organizations that impact the lives of children who have been or are in foster care in North Carolina.
- FFA-NC is dedicated to working with state and county officials to assess the needs of families, address issues and implement policies and changes throughout the state. Its goal is to connect individuals, families, and organizations that are serving kids in foster care in order to bring a family voice to the process of revising policies and gathering data, as well as to help implement changes consistently throughout the state.
- FFA-NC will provide training to families through means to be determined by an ongoing needs assessment. It will also help families connect to additional training to meet their needs through networking.
